Do I need to fast before an MRI?
Usually not. Brain, spine and joint MRIs rarely need fasting. Abdominal MRI and MRCP may need a few hours of fasting — we'll tell you exactly what applies to your scan when you book.
Is MRI safe? What about metal implants?
MRI uses no radiation — that's its big advantage. The magnet is very powerful though, so a safety screening is mandatory. Most modern implants are fine, but older pacemakers and some devices are not. Tell us your history when booking.
How long does the scan take and when is my report ready?
Most scans take 20–45 minutes depending on the study. Routine reports are ready within hours; urgent cases are prioritised immediately. You'll get printed and digital copies.
